Natalie Merchant, Jeff Beck, MGMT top this week’s new CD releases. All in store this Friday!

Natalie Merchant – Leave Your Sleep
The former 10,000 Maniacs lead singer hasn’t put out a solo album since 2001 (”Motherland”) and now, nine years later, she’s going all-out with a two-disc release featuring her musical takes on 19th- and 20th-century poetry.

Jeff Beck – Emotion & Commotion
Rock super-axe-man Jeff Beck returns with his first studio album in seven years, this time backed on several tunes by a symphony orchestra. Beck also collaborates on several songs with singers Imelda May and Joss Stone.

MGMT – Congratulations
MGMT’s career took off like a rocket with 2007′s critically and popularly acclaimed ”Oracular Spectacular.” The follow-up, ”Congratulations,” is something of a departure, with the band intending to release no proper singles from the album in an effort to have the record treated as a complete and integrated piece of art; i.e., without removable parts. It’s not entirely successful in that regard but intriguing nonetheless.
